IT and IT enabled services form a large portion of  the outsourced back office work to India and other countries. While a technical background is required for most IT related positions like programmers, any degree is sufficient for IT Enabled services. Some of  the ITES companies also hire college students, who work on a part time basis.

The basic qualifications for IT /software jobs are an  Engineering degree - B.E / B.Tech / M.Tech or MCA. Good analytical skills are required to understand the customer requirements and write relevant software.  Since programming language change quickly, workers should be learn new skills and programming languages quickly. In many projects, there are penalties if  the project is delayed, so the ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines is important.

For IT enabled services a basic knowledge of computers could be adequate, but other skills are required. Some of  the most common ITES jobs are for

1. Data conversion - converting unformatted data into a specific format in MS Excel or Access

2. Customer support by email or live chat - a specific number of  email may have to be to replied to in a shift.

3. General and medical transcription - For general transcription, a good typing speed and listening skills are required. For medical transcription, familiarity with medical terms is required, so a background in health or specialized training is additionally required.

4. Content writing : Ability to write in simple language and research new subjects will help.
