Back Office

In recent years, many back office jobs are outsourced to India and other countries with cheap labor costs. Larger companies in these countries also outsource their work locally to reduce their overheads. All jobs which do not involve customer interaction are considered back office jobs. Most of  the outsourced jobs are from the banking and financial sector, though CAD and legal services are also outsourced .

A person can work for the back office operations of a specific company - human resources, financial services, accounts, administration or technical support. However, working in a company that specializes in back office functions only, offers a greater chance for career growth. These companies may provide customer support by phone, live chat or email, help in analysis of data, forecast future trends.

The skills required for a back office job depends to a large extent on the nature of  the job. Like all jobs, interpersonal  and communication skills are important, especially while working in teams. Since most of  the work is done remotely, knowledge of  computers is required. Willingness to travel and work in shifts is also important. An employee should adjust quickly to changes,  be well organized and have good time management skills.
